Whimsical Copper & Turquoise Animal Inlay Necklace

This whimsical sterling silver panel necklace is inlaid with copper animal heads on a field of turquoise. The animal heads are adorable and graphic, almost cartoonish. Birds, fish, perhaps a hedgehog, and a silly iguana sit flush in a field of green turquoise. The stone and metal are inlaid in curved sterling silver panels linked by small silver rings. The back of the necklace is marked "Taxco Mexico" and is signed "LL," and stamped with the Mexican Eagle 1 for sterling silver. Circa 1940.

The city of Taxco is an important center for Mexican silver jewelry design. During the 1940s, Taxco drew jewelry artists from all over the world. The main attraction for the designers and studio jewelers was the abundant locally mined supply of materials, such as silver and semi-precious gems.

Details.....The necklace is 18.5" long. The front panels measure 1.05" by .92", and the back panels measure 1.45" by .45". In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces; we consider it part of the charm.
